Man Publicly Strips Himself Unclad In Lagos As Children Watch & Clap For Him

Man Docked For Allegedly Exposing Unclad Body In Public

A 30-year-old man, Raphael Adeyemi, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly exposing his unclothedness to children in a public place.

Adeyemi of no fixed address, is facing a five-count charge of assault, damaging property, causing breach of public peace, resistance to arrest and acting in a manner that could corrupt children.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 23 at 2.30 p.m. at Adeyemi St., Ijora-Badia, Apapa.

Inedu said that the accused undressed and exposed his Unclad body in the presence of children, thereby acting in a manner that could corrupt the public.

He said that Adeyemi also assaulted a female trader, Kafilat Saliu, by beating her and throwing her goods into the gutter.

“The accused removed his clothes and stripped himself Unclad in a public place, while children around the scene were watching and clapping for him.

“This act by Adeyemi could cause breach of public peace and corrupt the children watching him,’’ he said.

The prosecutor further said that the accused resisted arrest and threatened to throw faeces at policemen who were invited to apprehend him.

Inedu said that the offences committed by the accused contravened sections 170, 337, 166, 117 and 134 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Mr M. Etti granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Aug 28 for further hearing.(NAN)
