Yesterday, the Nigerian police reportedly dispersed
some peaceful protesters forcefully in Calabar, Cross-River. According
to reports, the University of Calabar UNICAL students were protesting
over the alleged absconding of the money promised them by the governor
of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade by the Commissioner for Youths and
Sports, Mr. Asu Okang - before they were attacked with teargas and also
allegedly shot at by the security operatives.
The incident reportedly happened at Murtala Mohammed Highway Calabar by Transcorp Hotel as they gathered at the U. J. Esuene stadium during the Children’s Day programme.
At least, three students were reported to have been shot with various degrees of injuries by the security operatives...
